Thurstle Island

This is a mini-setting that I am building to run my first game using my Ultra-Bastard hack of D&D and as a proof of concept of my Blobcrawl methodology. I'll be posting the pieces (spoilers) and adding them to the index at the bottom of this post as I write them.

Player Pitch: Thurstle Island is a rocky outpost in the northern sea. It is a place of buried secrets. No one willing to wield an axe and take big risks will stay poor here.

Vikings plunder the ruins of an Ancient city full of strange artifacts and bizarre architecture. Colonists of the Gothic empire have secured the island's only beach but are barred from the island's interior by hostile druids. Tensions are increasing and the uneasy balance could be toppled at any moment..

Player characters are newly arrived adventurers. Oppose or befriend colonialists, vikings, druids, smugglers and cultists. Discover strange underground realms and the bizarre magics of the distant past. Investigate the foreboding abbey. Dig into the barrow mounds left by demi-god heroes. Explore the dark woods without being caught by the druids or eaten by the trees.

This is a campaign of exploration. Combat is fast and deadly. You are better off using your wits than your sword but often you'll need both.

I am creating a distinctive location for each map zone with a dense web of interconnections. Some of the blobs are dungeons, some are pathcrawls.

Abbreviated Appendix N: Darkest DungeonAt the Mountains of Madness, Sunless Sea, Roadside Picnic and a bunch of history podcasts.

If you are not a player and want to see the maps, dungeons, monsters etc. I've collected the posts under the Thurstle Island tag. and I'll do my best to index them below.

Even the titles of some locations are spoilery. You've been warned.
